ADT was reported to the Deceptive Design Tip Line over the way it handles subscription cancellations. According to the report, the subscription cannot be cancelled online; instead the customer must telephone the company, where they are connected to a sales representative who pressures them into keeping the subscription. The report adds that vague references to the safety and security of the customer’s home are used to ensure the customer interacts with that representative.
